A fire front moving past your area doesn't mean the danger is over. Roots and buried debris can smolder underground for days and flare back up, downed power lines may still be live, and well water can be contaminated by ash and chemical runoff. Wait for an official all-clear before returning, and once you're back, walk the property looking for smoke or heat before you relax — a hidden hot spot near the house is how a "contained" fire becomes a second one.
