Outdoor spigots, irrigation lines, and pipes running through unheated spaces are the first things to burst in an early freeze, often before anyone's thought about winterizing yet. Disconnect hoses, insulate exposed pipes, and know where your main water shutoff is before the first hard freeze, not after a pipe's already burst.
