Keep at least one backup that isn't always connected — ransomware can't encrypt what it can't reach

A backup drive that's permanently plugged in, or a cloud sync folder that mirrors changes instantly, gets encrypted right along with everything else if ransomware hits — a live backup isn't a safe backup if it's reachable by the same infection. Keep at least one copy on a drive you physically disconnect after backing up, or use a backup service with immutable/versioned snapshots, so there's always a copy the malware never touched.
