Never plug in a USB drive you found, even out of curiosity

A USB drive "dropped" in a parking lot, left on a desk, or handed out as a free giveaway is a well-known way to get malware onto a device — curiosity about what's on it is exactly what the trick relies on. Plugging it in, even just to see whose it is or try to identify the owner, can be enough for it to run something automatically or impersonate a keyboard. If you find one, don't plug it into anything that matters — hand it to IT/security if it's a workplace, or just don't use it at all at home.
